According to Kabbalah, it is accepted that the Hebrew letters have spiritual powers. The letter Alef is the first in the order of the hebrew letters, symbolizing infinity. It expresses new beginnings and forward movement and includes within it immense forces radiating on all the letters that follow it.
Graphically, the letter Alef is characterized by what appears to be a breakthrough in all directions, unlike most letters, it has no roof over it, no walls on its sides, and no base at its feet, and therefore it symbolizes infinity.
Its shape indicates its inwardness - it looks like a ladder placed on the ground and its head touches the sky. The upper right part is the letter Yud which indicates the higher spiritual world, the lower left part also the letter Yud but this time in reverse and indicates the physical world. These are connected together by the letter Vav that stands diagonally. If we write the word "Alef" from the end to the beginning we get the word "Pele" (marvel).
In this tiny artwork, I added to the idea of the eruption of the letter Alef in all directions also the internal rotational motion. After all, everything ultimately stems from internal movement!

מסתרי האות אלף
על פי תורת הקבלה, מקובל שלאותיות העבריות יש כוחות רוחניים. האות א' למשל, הראשונה בסדר האותיות, מסמלת את האינסוף, את הבורא ואת הנשמה. לפני בריאת כל העולמות ברא האל את האותיות והעניק לכל אחת מהן כוח רוחני ואנרגטי המייחד אותה בלבד. האלף מסמלת אחדות כוללת הנובעת ממקור החכמה, היא מבטאת התחלות חדשות ותנועה קדימה, היא ניצבת גבוה בסולם הערכים האוניברסליים וכוללת בתוכה כוחות עצומים המקרינים על כל האותיות הבאות אחריה.
מבחינה גראפית מתאפיינת האות א׳ בצורה הנראית כפורצת לכל הכיוונים בשונה ממרבית האותיות אין לה גג מעליה, לא קירות מצדדיה ולא בסיס לרגליה, ולכן מסמלת היא את האינסוף, היא מייצגת אמת מוחלטת שבכוחה לחבר בין הפכים ומהווה צינור דרכו עובר שפע בין העולם הרוחני לעולם הגשמי.
צורתה מעידה על פנימיותה - היא נראית כסולם מוצב ארצה וראשו נוגע בשמים. חלקה הימני העליון הוא האות י' המורה על העולם הרוחני הגבוה, חלקה השמאלי התחתון גם כן האות י' אך הפעם בהיפוך ומורה על העולם הגשמי. הללו מחוברים יחדיו באמצעות האות ו' הניצבת באלכסון. אם נכתוב את המילה "אלף" מהסוף להתחלה נקבל את המילה "פלא”.
ביצירה זעירה זו הוספתי לרעיון של ההתפרצות של האות א׳ לכל הכיוונים גם את התנועה הסיבובית הפנימית. שהרי הכל בסופו של דבר נובע מתנועה פנימית!
